Through the looking glass:
Celebrating 20 years of the Kane County Children's Waiting Room

What has the KCBF done this year?

  • Awarded a scholarship for the Boys and Girls Club The Boys and Girls Club (BGC) provide after school programs for school going children of ages 13-18. The children get help from mentors in doing homework, college prep and get to work in STEM labs. In addition, the facilities provide recreational programs and clubs where the children can try their hands at arts and crafts or participate in discussion groups. All of this is done with the aim of helping the children learn about different career paths so they can be successful in their adult lives. The children are also assisted in their learnings by positive role models so they can develop good character and be responsible citizens. This year the KCBF Scholarship was awarded to Abigail Dunn. Abigail was placed first in the BGC competition for the Illinois State Youth of the Year. Abigail’s dream is to become a not for profit CEO utilizing her talents as a communicator, fundraiser, and advocate for others. Although she received another scholarship for tuition to complete a Bachelor’s Degree at Judson University in Elgin, Il; Abigail needed assistance with books, fees, and transportation. The KCBF Scholarship will assist her with those needs. She is currently working part-time as an assistant on the Resource Development team at the Boys & Girls Club while attending college full time. By investing in the next generation of leaders, scholars, and innovators, the scholarship funding from the KCBF not only transforms individual lives, but also contributes to the broader societal good, fostering a more educated, empowered, and equitable community.
